EGGSTREME HOCKEY POWER PACKS

October 2, 2008

NEWS RELEASE / COMMUNIQUÉ

October 1, 2008 NR128.08

EGGSTREME HOCKEY POWER PACKS BACK FOR ANOTHER SEASON!

CALGARY, AB – Hockey Canada, in partnership with Egg Farmers of Canada (EFC), is pleased to announce that the EGGStreme Hockey Power Pack program is back for another year. As in 2007-08, the program will offer free prize packs loaded with Hockey Canada-branded prizes for lucky players, fans and tournament organizers. Building on the success of the inaugural program in 2007-08, the 2009 packs will include many of the same popular items:

Ø Pucks for tournament play

Ø Toques for tournament champions

Ø Ball caps for tournament volunteers

Ø EGGstreme Hockey pennants to help decorate the registration and in-arena areas

Ø An Official Hockey Canada National Team jersey for prizing or fundraising

Ø A roll of Hockey Canada “Get Cracking®” hockey tape for participating players

Ø Cool prizes for parents and fans

Registration for the 2009 program will open in early October on Hockey Canada’s website and the deadline for minor hockey associations to register is November 14, 2008. A minimum of 50 tournaments – in the Novice and Atom divisions – will be chosen to receive the EGGStreme Hockey Power Pack this season. Tournaments must be scheduled between January and April 2009. Due to the overwhelming response the program enjoyed last year and the positive feedback received from tournament organizers, Hockey Canada encourages all minor hockey associations to pass this information on to their members. To register your tournament for the EGGstreme Hockey Power Pack program, please fill out the registration form by CLICKING HERE.

Following the deadline, a selection committee comprised of Hockey Canada and EFC representatives will choose at least 50 tournaments as winning entries. Efforts will be made to spread the program across the country, allowing it to reach major regions and offer the opportunity to Hockey Canada’s branches. The winners will be announced in January 2009.

“We were overwhelmed by the response we received to the EGGstreme Hockey Power Packs last year,” says Tim Lambert, EFC’s Chief Executive Officer. “Egg Farmers of Canada is thrilled to continue supporting this program and promoting the healthy lasting energy in eggs at local hockey tournaments across the country. We’re encouraging all minor hockey associations to register for this EGGSciting program!”

“Hockey Canada is thrilled to take this program into Year 2 with Egg Farmers of Canada” says Scott Smith, Hockey Canada’s chief operating officer. “We look forward to building on last year’s successful launch and reaching out again this year to tournaments across the country with this great program.”

EFC represents farmers producing eggs on Canada’s 1,045 regulated egg farms located in each province and the Northwest Territories. EFC is dedicated to providing fresh, nutritious, and high-quality eggs at reasonable prices to all Canadians.

Hockey Canada, in participation with its 13 Branches and thousands of minor hockey associations across the country, is celebrating the more than 550,000 players who take to the ice each season, along with the coaches, officials and administrators who shape the game.
